How do students' skills improve?

Across middle school, Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia students show significant increases in proficiency levels in math and reading on standardized test scores.  These scores play a key role in students' eligibility for enrollment in the city's top high schools.


Where do Breakthrough students attend high school?


of Breakthrough Greater Philadelphia middle school students gain competitive slots in the city's selective, college-preparatory high schools.  These schools graduate approximately 96% of their students and send the majority to college.


How many students graduate from high school?


of Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia students graduate from high school within four years.



How many students go straight to college?


of Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia students enroll in college right after high school.  This compares with approximately 15% overall of students in the School District of Philadelphia.


What are our students' college graduation rates?

Beginning with the class of 2009, Breakthough has offered some high school programming and services through the college application process.  These students benefitted from our three summer middle school program and a nascent version of our high school program.

  • Class of 2009:  46%
  • Class of 2010:  42%
  • Class of 2011:  40%

Beginning with the class of 2017, Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia transitioned to a ten year program, following our high school graduates through their college enrollment.  By 2023, we will have six-year graduation data on our first class of students who recieved college services, and in 2027, we will have six-year graduation data on our first class of students to receive full high school and college service.
