"The Breakthrough program is like a coach training you to run that marathon you have wanted to run your entire life and I am happy and proud to be a part of it."
Hello! My name is Ben Frazier. I am a 7th grader. I decided to join the Breakthrough program because I saw it as a gateway to success, that yellow brick road to something great at the end.
After seeing the Breakthrough introduction presentation, some kids at my school asked me if I would be able to stand six years of extra school work, I asked them if they are willing to work a little harder now to get ahead or would they enjoy working HARDER six years down the road trying to just break even. My mind was made up from the start…hard work now will better prepare me for life’s challenges later.
While at Breakthrough, I have learned to take more pride in myself and my education, and I have made a lot of friends along the way. I enjoy the classroom settings, the students and the teachers at Breakthrough because even though we are learning in a classroom setting, it doesn’t feel exactly like a school. The classrooms have about 10 less students’ each and they are quiet, calm settings that promote a good stress-free learning environment. The Breakthrough teachers are mentors who will treat you like a friend no-matter what happens, and their enthusiastic attitudes make you excited to try and learn new things. They’ve given me tips on how to research a subject and write about it, which is a skill I’ll use in college and every day of my life afterward.
For me, the Breakthrough experience is like coming home to a second family whose creed is learning. My future goal is to become a meteorologist, and I feel that the Breakthrough program is preparing me to achieve this goal by encouraging me to work hard and do my best at every opportunity that is presented to me. The Breakthrough program is like a coach training you to run that marathon you have wanted to run your entire life and I am happy and proud to be a part of it.
