Kadiatou D.

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Kadiatou and I am an eighth grader. I would like to start off by saying that Breakthrough is one of the most extraordinary things that has happened to me.

I decided to join Breakthrough because of how it would benefit me in the future and present. I have had a lot of tough days during my life. However, I learned that you have to move on and not let this event destroy you or your future. Initially, I joined Breakthrough because of how it would benefit my education. When I was first reading the brochure of the marvelous Breakthrough program, it said that Breakthrough would increase academic opportunity. In other words, Breakthrough will help me apply to the top best high schools and colleges and put me on a successful path.

During the Breakthrough program, I have gained a variety of strengths. For instance, I have gained more confidence in myself. To explain, before whenever I had to present something, I felt like my heart would drop into my stomach. After the Breakthrough Summer Program, every time I needed to present something like a writing prompt I feel more comfortable and my heart stays in its correct position. Another strength I have gained is being more social in a group project. For example, when I did group projects during the school year I would work with the team but I wouldn't get to know my team members more.

One thing that I enjoy about Breakthrough is that when you are at Breakthrough, you feel the adhesion and connection between the students. Our connection is as strong as a family. Another thing I like about Breakthrough is the learning process is a very intellectual way to learn because it's fun but we are still learning. I also like that the Breakthrough teachers they have a bond with the students in a friendly way but they also have our respect as adults. Breakthrough classrooms is also more entertaining to learn in, I feel the urge to learn more about that certain concept that the teacher's teaching.

In the future, I want to be successful, build a family, and live comfortably. The high school I really would like to go to is Central High School. The college I look forward to going to would have to be Yale University or the University of San Francisco. In the future, I would like to be either a pediatric nurse practitioner, a registered nurse or a pediatrician. To achieve these goals Breakthrough is going to prepare me because I feel like Breakthrough is helping me in becoming more confident in myself, being able to write essays, being able to express my opinions, and Breakthrough is also helping me become more social with people, being able to tell who I am without being timid.

Lastly, I would like to say even though I am not done with the Breakthrough program, I know I just did one year but that one year has developed so much success in my life. I would like to thank all my teachers from Miss Abbott to Miss Watson to Miss Lindsay, Mr. Kevin, Mr. Erick, Mr. Nana and Miss Caroline. Most of all I would like to thank my mom for influencing me to be in this program and raising me to be myself and no one else because everyone else is taken. Thank you ladies and gentleman for taking the time out of your day to listen to this speech.
