I always thought teachers knew it all
My amount of knowledge seemed so small
Now I see teachers are most aware
Of all the kinds of people out there

That all can teach and help one grow
My students taught me all I know
6 long weeks and countless hours
Of using all of my brain powers
Trying to make sense of say see dos
Hoping exhaustion will strike a fuse
Lighting up my lessons with fire
So students leave my room inspired
A couple days such might have been
The others required a thicker skin
A summer of pride and of stress
But more of growth than I can express.

No matter how one tries to predict
Some surprise will cause some conflict
The greatest thing I must have learned
Was how to adapt and seem unturned
Because no matter how stable I am
Or how much respect I demand
There’s always something unexpected
And quickly needs to be corrected
I’m glad I arrived with no expectation
Instead coming with pure dedication
I followed a hunch and I believe its true
That teaching is what I want to do
I’ve heard to teach is to learn twice
But for the future here is my advice
Don’t limit growth to numbers of two
There is no end to what teaching can teach you.
