GFS & BREAKTHROUGH NATIONAL COLLABORATIVE
Breakthrough’s mission reaches far and wide. We are proud to be one of 25 Breakthrough Collaborative affiliates across the globe, and powered by
Germantown Friends School.
Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia is associated with Breakthrough Collaborative, a network of 25 affiliates worldwide. Each year, Breakthrough connects 10,000 students with 1,100 college-aged Teaching Fellows in 25 cities across the country.

Founded in 1845, Germantown Friends School is a Preschool through Grade 12 independent school based in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. GFS' mission is to seek truth, challenge the intellect, honor differences, embrace the city, and nurture each student’s mind, body and spirit.
Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia is powered by Germantown Friends School (GFS). As such, Breakthrough is a wholly-owned subsidiary that maintains its status as a separate 501(c)(3) organization, with an annual independent financial statement audit and 990 filing process. Breakthrough must raise funds each year to provide for 100% of its operating expenses.

As a small organization, Breakthrough benefits from the infrastructure and stability offered by Germantown Friends School. Breakthrough receives efficiencies through GFS' institutional support, including financial staff, IT staff, HR staff, and other resources that enable Breakthrough to focus on program quality and delivery.
