Teaching Fellows are educators-as-superheroes, empowering and uplifting middle schoolers as diverse, talented role models. TEACHING JOURNEY
Program highlights include:

Learn lesson planning, nurturing classroom culture, instructional strategies, feedback techniques, and other essential learning tools

Teach core academic classes (math, science, writing, literature) and
co-curricular classes
(e.g., world languages, dance, art, sports, capoeira)

Collaborate with colleagues in a challenging, fun, and supportive environment and receive regular coaching from professional educators

Lead family conferences, participate in team meetings, and learn how to receive and deliver actionable feedback
School Year Program
Teaching Fellow Experience
Breakthrough’s School Year Program is led by dynamic, responsible college and graduate school students with diverse backgrounds, skills, and academic interests. They are critical to sustaining our students’ commitment to learning by engaging them in meaningful lessons and inspiring them to thrive in their education.

We are partnering with area colleges and universities in our search for Teaching Fellows. If you are interested in Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia for a pre-service instructional experience for your school, contact Sakina Parks, Program Manager.
Program highlights include:

Paid internship, teach one academic subject per year and support the overall program during special trips and workshops

Classes are held 9 am – 2 pm on Saturdays, September through May
-
Focuses on academics (e.g., writing, math) and various elective courses (e.g., financial literacy, classics)
-
Fellows are expected to be present for all Saturdays during both Fall and Spring sessions and work under the supervision of our Dean of Faculty
Become a Instructional Coach (Summer)
At Breakthrough’s nine-week residency program, Coaches will have the opportunity to LEARN and LEAD. Instructional Coaches are professional and experienced teachers seeking to take on a leadership role in an educational organization. In addition to invaluable professional development opportunities, this role provides the leadership and expertise that underpin the growth of our Teaching Fellows, who in turn pour their energy and enthusiasm to empower our middle school students. Instructional Coach is a Summer position.

Become a Dean of Faculty
(Summer and School Year)
Breakthrough's Dean of Faculty and Assessment Manager is a part-time, seasonal position that oversees academic curriculum and assessment implementation for Breakthrough Scholars. The role also includes preparing, training, supervising, and mentoring Teaching Fellows and Instructional Coaches.

Students who intend to pursue careers in education, as well as those who haven’t yet considered it. Education coursework is not a prerequisite.

Individuals Who are Able to Commit Time
For our Summer Program, Teaching Fellows must commit to the entire
nine-week summer experience. Fellows must be motivated by personal growth and comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
